Really like the Green and Green details. Maybe the head can be shaped like their cloud detail found on stretchers other horizontal pieces. More pictures

Ed,

That's exactly what I'd planned for the peghead, shaping it based on the rung on this G & G style end table. Cloud lift, I believe.

Great minds . . .

Glued the Redwood veneer to the top.
Decided to go with a Bubinga fret board.
Hacked in some gold pearl.

We should do a thread like this every month!

I am jealous of your resaw. I am using my Rikon 14" .... And it works, but it's too small for the amount of wood I have that needs resawing. Something with a 3" wide band would do the trick ;)

Thanks

Just finished this little 00. Thanks to Joel for the awesome form!
My first non dread and first slothead.
Sapele, Engleman, curly and spalted maple details.
Tru-oil.
Assembled the body at home. Carved and fit the neck, did the finishing in Southern Baja while on vacation. This guitar goes in a charity auction benefitting the kids at a rural school here in El Sargento.
Thanks to Cal for the great set-up lesson, i think I am starting to get it.

Awesome, I got hooked G&G a while back, had a chance to tour a few of their homes including the Gamble house. Pretty impressive!
Ingenious to incorporate these details into a guitars. Fumed oak maybe for the next?

I'm working on a 00-28 for my wife. I started with morenge back and sides, but could not save the sides from multiple cracks in the bending process ( hot pipe). I had an orphan set of EIR and decided to use it. We are very much dog people and this one is named after the one we lost last year. I patterned the sound port on his actual paw print. Here is the "Dakota Special". I'm carving the slot head neck now .ImageImage

I've set aside a few nice off-cuts of white oak from a cabinet job for some back sets. I've got some narrower boards for sides, and about 40' of wide stuff with some stunning rays to pick over.

Got the braces glued onto the top and back of a new parlor guitar. European spruce and ziricote.

Nice work bench, Jay! That ziricote looks great, and it's the inside!

Is that an Alpha Romeo? Surely you work on that sometimes!

On my Greene & Greene guitar, I didn't like the top. The rosette didn't quite fit the G & G schtick, and the Chladni patterns were way off. So I made another top, this time with the ebony link pieces standing a bit proud. Might give me fits doing the finish around them since I don't spray. Shaped the headstock too.

Been a while since I have been working on guitars, tore apart my work area and it is taking a while to get it back together. Just a quick project to get back into it, I am doing a spruce body and poplar neck Telecaster.

I've been rebuilding my shop. Built a setup bench and just finished the leg vise yesterday. Just need to find a piece of leather for the top. Image

That looks .... kind of familiar! Check out any local upholsterer's. They usually have lots of leather scraps kicking around

Hey Alex. You're right, it should look real familiar. Bench and vise are shameless copies. That's what Hesh gets for leaving me unsupervised 8-)

Yes, it's a 1972 Alfa Spider. It's a fixture in my garage/shop, or is it shop/garage? I got it really well sorted out years ago with the help of an Alfa specialist in Seattle. It hasn't let me down since 2008 (fingers crossed).

I hope dealing with the finish on the ebony pieces in your rosette goes ok, because those will be a very cool feature when done.

Where'd you get the press screw? I've been wanting to copy off of Dave and Hesh since I was there back in the summer.

Nice ride, Jay. I worked on a few of those back in the day. My favorite cars for test drives after tuning them up.

Jason, that's the plan.

Screw came from Lee Valley. It was too long so I cut off about 4".

Edit: It's their tail vise screw, here's the link http://www.leevalley.com/us/wood/page.aspx?p=41664&cat=1,41659,41661,41664
