I recently finished up build #3. This build is for me as a birthday present. I had the day off work yesterday for MLK (also happens to be my birthday) so I got to play it some. I tried the halo markers from one of the recent tutorials on here but used sterling beads instead of the copper. Turned out pretty nice. I followed the plan for the fretboard dimensions so the string spacing feels huge at the moment but I like it!

The details:

Built from the Scott Antes Parlor plan.
Back and sides are Bocote from LMI.
Top is Bearclaw Sitka from a luthier in Seattle area.
Ebony and Maple binding and purfling scheme.
Bocote rosette and headplate cover.
Bocote fretboard.
Honduran Mahogany neck from RC Tonewoods.
Gotoh GNS1 Tuners.
Tung oil finish.

Big thanks to everyone who helped with my constant newbie questions in the forum.

Wow Brad! She's a beauty! I wish my #3 was half as good as yours. Congratulations.

Sweet build Brad, looks like you had a good Birthday!

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Here is a brief video of my guitar teacher giving it a go. iPhone video, so not great sound, but OK. Hope the link works.

Wow, very nice! I'm still working on #1 myself. Is there a construction thread somewhere?

Brad, that is a really pretty guitar. I like the halo side dots. Overall just nicely done!

Nice looking and sounding guitar! The woodworking is really clean. I like how the oil finish turned out as well.

Thanks!

Funny, because after playing some yesterday I found that I was getting poked while palm muting, so I did exactly that!

Should I go more?

Very nice! You seem to like bocote a lot. I'm thinking of that nice bocote uke you built. One of the details I like a lot is how the grain pattern of the bocote in the bridge fits the bridge shape so well.

Thanks! I built this and the Uke at the same time but the Uke was for someone else so got the priority. My goal was to have this one ready by my birthday.

Love the Bocote for sure. I'll miss the pickles. :D

These were taken in my living room which has overhead LED track lighting. I used a black backdrop I got from Amazon. I'm going to try to take some more pictures outside in the daylight, if it ever stops raining. laughing6-hehe
