For binding pieces made by cutting sides down to size, I do the clothes pin technique.
If I have a flatsawn board, I use a fire-hose and an air compressor to make a sandwich. Then I slice it on the table saw.
Here's a shot of the sandwich to give the idea. Image

I happen to be at that stage with a build. It is a cutaway so I am going to need fairly high temperatures to do the bend. I remember the stink of CA when it is heated so I thought I would try something different. I am trying glue known as Cascamite in the UK. It has had various names at different times. A resin that you mix with water. It is supposed to be very resistant to pretty much anything when set.

I have also tried the multiple clip approach and the compression jig as above. It needs a few hours to set so I'll report back later.

I wondered if anyone else had tried it?

I am only doing this because I wanted to use matching mahogany in the bindings to the rosette. Much easier to buy in if you can.

At a guitar seminar last year, I was talking with Marc Beneteau about purfling glue ups, and he said that he used the Circa resin glue. Water and heat resistant enough for guitar use.

He also said that he strains the glue after it is mixed.

I just bent some snakewood binding with a white/black/white (.020,020,0200) using titebond 3 (waterproof)

It worked perfectly-no delamination .

Well Cascamite worked fine, it stood up to a pretty high temperature. The pufling itself was delaminating while the cascamite held firm.

Shame I couldn't persuade the mahogany into the tight cutaway bend!

Using multiple clips to clamp worked but gave a slightly uneven result. I did much better with a simple squeeze jig.
