Does it have a strong smell, if you scrape or sand it a bit. |

I'll agree it looks like dalbergia. The first two pieces look like cocobolo, the other two I'm not sure about. It would help to know how it smells. |

Hi Guy's There's a smell for sure ,hard to place it though. Two pieces total, I just flipped them over to the side in the second shot(1st and 2nd pics are wet down). Seems a little heavier then Indian rosewood ,but not much. |

2nd pic looks like a piece of Brazilian rosewood I have. Smells are sometimes hard to describe. Sweet, flowery and some sort of chocolate-meets-cinnamon bubblegum all thrown in the mix. |

First one looks like cocobolo, the other one looks like Indian. Cocobolo should be recognizable by its smell. Indian can be sorted out from the other rosewoods by its smaller and more numerous pores. |

*Most* rosewoods can be identified by their unique fragrance... |

The smell of Indian rosewood always reminds me of a pipe tobacco shop. |

A.Hix wrote: Camatillo rosewood. Thank you, Aaron, for weighing in. Is "Camatillo rosewood" the same thing as "Mexican kingwood"? Are we talking about D. congestiflora? In your experience, what is the density of D. congestiflora? I've read everything from .85 - 1.1. On the subject of rosewood ID, I found this interesting (especially the tables and figures):https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2794071/ I had been under the impression that U.V. light was the litmus test. I gather that there isn't one. |
