Hi

Does anyone put a backstrap plate with a round volute on there acoustics, if that makes sense.
I have the volute lip and not shaped neck yet, now im not sure whether it's best to carve the semi circle and round the neck before glueing on the veneers or shape it in after.
What order do you do yours?

After.

I made a tutorial some years back, that shows how I make both a volute type backstrap and one that extends down the back of the neck.

The only reason I ever use a volute is to give the backstrap veneer a defned edge to sand to.
I pull the volute about an inch away from the nut. I don't like my hand running into the volute.
