The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

You'll enjoy it, Brad. One of the guys in the maker space I belong to does auto body on the side and drools over my Iwata. I joke that it's pearls before swine because I only ordered the gun Joe White suggested to me a decade ago when I asked for his advice. I never knew the difference having a nice gun made until my friend at the maker space had me set up his entry-level gun to see the difference in the quality of the spray fan, etc.

Congrats Brad! I have a Walcom Genesi Geo and I can attest to the fact that a good gun can make a world of difference. Mind you, I had to hone my skills a bit before the difference became evident, but you'll never regret buying a quality item.

Yes, I have been spraying guitars for over 40 years with crappy to medium grade guns so I am sure it will help in my process.
