it's your flattening paste is not mixed completely with your lacquer. Could be just lack of mixing or an incompatible finish/paste mix......

Interesting. I'm using all Behlen products so I would assume compatibility is good. I'm not sure how to mix other than stir together. I love flat finish guitars so I do need to figure out how to get the mixture correct. I did follow the back-of-can mixture ratio for flat.

Flatttening paste is difficult to cut into lacquer. Hand stirring is often not enough. Especially if you are adding your own paste. Pre made flat coatings are blended very well at the factory and still require quite a bit of mechanical agitation to beat the flattenner back into solution. Some brands also settle out faster and require near constant agitation of the spray load in the gun to maintain even sheen.

Also typically the flattened finish is only used on the last two coats, all the build coats are typically done in gloss as it is harder and more durable. Over thick or uneven film builds of all flattened coating can lead to hazy spots and uneven sheen.

If you see blush happening, you can sometimes cure it by moving the piece to a warmer (drier) place (heated closet) while the lacquer is still "wet"
