Well... You aren't primarily bending oak, ash, or beech either. The easiest wood I have ever bent fpr guitar sides is well quartersawn oak. Wet it good.. Once it hits the right temperature - it literally flops onto the form. There was no springback. |

Actually, it first occurred to me that I could build a guitar when I was bending a 5/8" piece of oak for a Windsor chair. Steve |

Very interesting video, especially interesting to see the use of the "stop blocks" at the ends to compress the inner radius, preventing fractures or tears in the outside radius caused by putting the outer fibres in tension. Probably that is part of the rational for using a bending strap when bending sides with a hot iron, but I just find it too awkward to use. But at least I only cracked one out of 5 practice sides with my new bending iron last week - forgot to keep the cutaway sprayed when trying to adjust it.
