One of the guitars I'm working on is in the style of a Gibson CS-336. It's the first set neck guitar I've done. Other electrics have been fender style, which I finished the neck and body separately. Should I finish the neck and body separately on this set neck model and then join them or join the two before finishing? |

Complete the whole guitar, then finish. |

I like to do as much of the finishing prep before gluing it together as I can, makes it easier to handle. Dry fitting along the way helps too, you don't want to have to prep tight areas where they join after it is glued. When you figure its as perfect you might try masking the areas around the joint close but not too close, this will help prevent staining the wood if you unfortunatley have to wipe a little bit from too much squeeze out, if there is a just little squeeze out, I don't wipe it but leave it to cut/scrape out when dry. Good luck with that.JMHO |
