New here! So this is my first post:) I'm currently on my third build and my first that isn't a kit, so I'm thicknessing my own plates this time w a plane (so TONS of learning to be done). Here's a pic!

My question is, who has made their own thickness calipers to check plate thickness with? I know I can buy such a thing, but it doesn't seem like a difficult thing to make....
anyone? Pics are great ! Advice? Thoughts? Comments:)?
Thanks,
B

I contemplated making my own, making the tools and jigs is as much fun as the guitar building,
But in the end I endedup with these.

Can't beat the price.

Yea... there's definitely an aspect of getting started with the right tools that is a balance between making jigs and or concentrating on making instruments. At $27 it's hard to justify even the few hours it would take to make a basic one. After the dial was purchased for around $15 you'd only be out $12.

Made it from laminated plywood, an old dial indicator and trussed with 3/4" angle.

Just make sure you check its accuracy with good quality feeler gauges.
