I use a sealer coat of dewaxed shellac (Zinser seal coat) then a coat of the Behlen vinyl sealer, then 8 coats of the instrument lacquer. |

Thanks, The first step is to prepare the back of the head by making a smooth transition between the end of the head and the neck shaft. The "trick" is to relieve the neck so that the thickness of the backstrap doesn't make a lump under the first fret where it ends. I use a flexible cork caul (with wax paper on it) to glue it down which follows the curve. Then when carving the neck you fair it in carefully starting with a rasp then switching to sandpaper on a 1" diameter dowel. It's actually one of my favorite parts of making the guitar. |
