I am finishing my first guitar and I want to pore fill the mahogany neck with Aqua Coat tinted with TransTint in the coffee color. I also want to put the same on the rosewood body. What I can not figure out is how to keep the purfling BWBW from being discolored because of the coffee color in the pore filler.
I have thought about trying to mask it off but I think that could be problematic so my next thought was to take super blonde shellac and go over all the purfling first before I did the pore filling. This seemed like a solution but then I thought would it cause a problem because I assume I would be putting on the pore filling more than one time and be sanding it off each time. Would I end up with a build up or will each time before I pore fill if I put super blonde shellac on again or am I way off base and there is a better way.

Which gets me to the question is it OK to pore fill the neck and use TransTint on it or will it not all sand off except for where it is in the pores. Stated another way will the TransTint tint the mahogany or end up blotchy.
My plan for finishing the guitar is to use the Aqua Coat then Seal Lac and then finish the guitar with Royal Lac possibly in the garnet shade except for the top which is Sitka Spruce. Once again do I need to cover the purfling with super blonde put on with a brush and if so how do I keep the purfling from turning darker?

I will not be spaying unless I can do it outside as I have to work in my garage and have natural gas for the furnace and hot water heater. So most likely I will be padding on the finish or brushing on the finish.
Thanks for any ideas and suggestions to help me figure out what I need to do. I have thought that since I have the white in the binding that the safest thing is just to use super blonde on the guitar and then I wouldn't have to worry about this so if that is the best solution so be it.

I would get a piece of the purfling, glue it to a rosewood scrap, and do some experimenting. If the TransTint shows in the white of the purfling after sanding, use a single edged razor blade to scrape the purfling, and go from there.

I spray a thinned coat of finish on it before pore filling. Seals it from staining. I assume you could brush a thin coat or pad it.
You mention sanding the pore filler. Shouldn't need to sand. Let it flash off then just wipe it off with some burlap. Burlap works great. Takes off the excess but leaves the pores filled. You'll need to work fast with a water born filler.

Seal the Mahogany before grain fill. Otherwise, the Transtint could dye all of the Mahogany.
I did this and had to sand it all back off. I ended up using black acrylic paint mixed with timbermate to fill the grain.
