I'd like to share my fourth acoustic with you. I finished it up about a month ago and love it. The recording isn't very good (it's really mid-focused), but it's fun to share nonetheless.

Some things about the guitar:
- 1st of my original design
- 25-25.75 multi-scale fretboard w/carbon fiber supports in the neck
- LS redwood top and koa back and sides
- Double sides
- Florentine cutaway
- An ebony and maple backstrap on the headstock which unfortunately you don't get to see

Really really happy with it overall and a few things I'd like to improve on with the next! Thanks for checking it out, and I'd be happy to answer any questions it brings up.

What were you laser cutting?

Thanks for sharing.

That was the bridge plate. I have some shop space in a local maker space and wanted to find ways to use some of the technology we have available. The most difficult part of using the laser is developing the file! I wound up taking a few stabs at cutting the outline of a my bridge on the CNC, but wound up doing the real thing by hand because there wasn't much room for error in terms of where I started cutting. I ran out of room on a few blanks.

I have a few ideas for some tools that I'd like to make in our machine shop, so that's an area I'd like to explore more.

That looks and sounds nice James. Great wood combo.
I like the you tube approach to showing your guitar. You see the guitar, hear the guitar and also get a little bit of the building history.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Beauty James! I was wondering when you were going to come out of the closet with that one. How about a few more photos!

Cheers

Thanks, Danny! I have this pic, but I haven't taken any others. I should. You can see that it needs a little touch-up love around the bridge. pfft

Thanks guys. I shot the video clips with my Nikon D5100 and worked on the color in Lightroom before piecing them together in iMovie. Once I had the color worked out, I pieced them together in about 15 minutes in iMovie.

The trickiest part was getting the audio to align with the video, and then setting up the camera each time. It was fun to do, but setting up the camera each shot took forever! I had the camera set up on a ladder for the side bending because I forgot to bring my tripod with me that day. :D

I tried to take a few pictures last night, but it was impossible not to get the glare. I'll work on them. I have a Facebook Album with build pictures here though: Build Pics

Great job James. Looks great. Sounds great.
You're right that the recording emphasizes the mids. But we can hear that the rest of the frequencies are there.
When recording I wear headphones so I can hear what the mic is "hearing."
