Plan: Stew mac 000. Changed bracing pattern to add A frame bracing in upper bout, mortised into head block. Added scoop cutaway, sound port and arm bevel. Back sides and top: mahogany/sapele. Cannot be more specific as it it is reclaimed timber from Bristol Timber Recycling Project. Width was limited hence 4 piece top and back. Purfling: BWB Binding: oak I cut myself Fingerboard, bridge, head stock plate and back strap: EIR Inlay, MOP on head stock, Abalone sound hole and son’s initials at 12th fret. All hand cut except MOP stars which were purchased Finish: shellac sealer, Zpoxy grain fill then TruOil Tuners: Wilkinson open back Strung with a set of Martin light gauge strings This is my second guitar (the first was the black walnut resonator I posted a while back) and this one was built for my son Mike. I have attached a picture of the bracing so you can see the changes I made. You will note that two of the finger braces are missing in this photo! Fortunately I spotted this before I attached the top! It has a low action and a wide 48mm nut. Plays well all up the neck with no buzzes, rattles or wolf notes. For this I have to thank Hesh for posting his method of setting the neck, flattening the fret board, cutting the nut and saddle etc. It worked a treat first time. Thank you very much Hesh and everyone else who posts here. It sounds good to me. Loud and even across all the strings with a full base and nice clear highs, which surprised me somewhat given the mahogany top. I am happy with the tight joint at the neck with no gaps under the fret board extension and the neat mitres on the purfling. Will try and get mu son to record something and put it on Youtube. Would be happy to answer any queries. Cheers, Bob Attachment: A.JPG Attachment: B.JPG Attachment: C.JPG Attachment: D.JPG Attachment: E.JPG Attachment: F.JPG Attachment: G.JPG Attachment: H.JPG

Beautifully done, Bob! Love the colour of the neck. Stained, or natural? Alex |

Nice one Bob! I like the whole thing, bet you had a lot of fun making it too. What did you use for a finish? And how do you like the tuners? - I have a set of them I'm thinking to use for my current build. |

Looks great!!! Tackling a scoop cutaway and bevel arm rest on your second build is quite admirable, but it looks pretty good. Kent |

Very nice work. I'm curious about the bracing ( or lack of) on the bass side of the X brace. Seems like a large area of soundboard. Does this affect you tone in any significant way? |

Alex Kleon wrote: Beautifully done, Bob! Love the colour of the neck. Stained, or natural? Alex Natural, no stain used at all. Makes me think neck is genuine mahogany. That piece I know came from the handrail of an old local fire station that was pulled down and must be at least 50 years old. It was lovely stuff to work with. Bob |

Finish is three coats of shellac sanding sealer then grain filled with three coats of Z-poxy, sanding between then several coats of TruOil applied in thin coats with a cloth. Tuners are fine so far and seem to work nice and smoothly. Only been strung a couple of days so time will tell! Bob |

In the pic two finger braces are missing on the base side. Fortunately I noticed and rectified this before gluing on the top! Bracing otherwise is as per StewMac plan but with added A frame in upper bout. |

Quine wrote: MMM...sweet. I love a mahogany top. Is that a 4pc top? Yes and the back too. It is made from reclaimed timber so I was limited in the width available. Bob |

Nicely done! That's a very nice looking #2. I've been wanting to build a 000 from the stewmac plans for a couple years now. I took some time off from building but I'm finally set up to build again. How were the plans to work from? Any complaints? |
