The small jumbo neck end side height is 3 11/16", neck block is 3 3/4". To me that is a perfect setup.

The medium jumbo side height at neck is 3 15/16" with the SAME neck block. The tail block is indeed taller than SJ. Why is the neck block not specified taller? My reasoning says it should be 4" total.

Has anyone noticed this before? Or am I missing something?

Mike

You could PM the person who drew it - he's a member.

Haven't seen him around here in a long time, but I took your advice.

However, I think it is logical that the neck block should be taller for the MJ. Its a two part block, primary part that receives the tenon should be 2 5/8", not 2 3/8". The tongue at the top remains 3/8" thick. I hate to admit it, but I noticed the problem on two previous MJ builds after the mortise was cut.

If anyone is using the MJ plans, I urge you to take a close look at what I am talking about.

Am I the only one with a set of MJ plans? Lol!! Surely someone has them and can look and see what I am talking about.

Mine are currently buried behind a kitchen. I'll try to get to them tomorrow.

I only used the outline and bracing pattern as a jump off point. I modified the x angle so that the x's do not bump against the UTB. What is the problem? You know what size it needs to be, make it the size it needs to be.

Hey Mike:

I've lost track of my friend Michael Dale Payne since around 2012. The last I knew he was a frequent poster on "My Les Paul" forum under the screen name "gator payne."

Michael drew up and donated the small and IIRC medium jumbo plans for and to the OLF. He's a great guy and was a huge contributor here helping to grow the OLF AND set a tone that this was a helpful, friendly forum back in the earlier days and to this very day too.

He was also one of our resident french polish gurus back in the day too.

I'll add that I used the plans for the body shape out line only too. I moved my own bracing around and IIRC also messed with the body depth but I can't remember in what respect. My impression was that most of us modified both the SJ and MJ at will so feel very free.

Gator would do a trivia question post occasionally on My LP, with the prize being a tub of lard or something like that.
That was fun.

Tub 'o lard was a fixture here too. My question is not about "if" there is an error in the planset. It's clear to me it's incorrect, and I've adjusted. Just think if the plans are to be sold here or at stewmac, the error should be noted. The MJ neckblock part should be cut 2 5/8", not 2 3/8". That's a big difference. And an important one.

Well, I'm still curious. Hoping someone will pull a copy of both plan sets and have a look.

I'm not saying I can't figure out how to adjust given side heights. Just think numbers in plan should be correct for future builders.
