Works pretty much like a Slinky toy.

I just got an order of this stuff and I'm a little mixed on it. Several pieces were broken, but I didn't complain as I'll just put a little extra work in and use them as is. Other than that there is a burn on the top and bottom- maybe for look or maybe because they are laser cut. Either way- I'm not a fan of the smell. They are made of plywood and I was curious how weight would compare to kerfed mahogany, which turned out to be about 18% lighter than the ply which is also a bit thicker and would accommodate a thicker purfling scheme. It might not sound like much but I do like to use heavier ebonies and rosewoods 99% of the time so for me it's something that I'm certainly conscious about. All these little details here and there add up.

I do love the concept and the product does exactly what it's supposed to do. It really does fit tight cutaways on the compound curve areas like a glove and you really don't need to even check that it's flush (although I still do) let alone cut relief slots into in those tight areas. I wonder if he ever tried to make these with mahogany/cedar/basswood etc and it didn't work for some reason.

This guy is licensed to make it & makes it from solid wood https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8q6-pesb3c

Looking around on YouTube it looks like laser cut kerfed material is referred to as Living Hinge.

What I have is either Bass wood or Spanish Cedar. Don't know anything about plywood. It does break easily though, and you have to be careful sanding the dome in it, or it will chip out.

"They are made of plywood"
How many plies does it have and how is the grain oriented?

If I can snag some more wacky wood I think I might try thickness sanding it down to 1/4 inch and round the bottom. It would look like reverse kerf linings without the kerfs and bend like the multi axis stuff.

5 layer 1/4” ply. Image

I’m wondering if my sides will be a bit less stiff with this stuff as well. I laminate my sides so they are already pretty stiff. When I get the kerfing they stiffen up more. Anyone using it notice any difference?
