Yea.
So I routed the area where the rosette would go. Took the top out to get the sea dust out of the groove..
Tapped on the other side to kind of knock the stuff out and I hear “crack”! I dodnt got it hard or flex it... just a tap w I he side of my thumb like you’d do tuning the top.
The crack went from the top all the way to t middle lower bout! Now....
it didn’t go all the way through. I can flex it and see the crack on the back, but the top side seems like the crack didn’t make it through.
At this stage is it worth carrying on with this top? Or scrapping it?
I know thinned hide glue would be the fix her, but I don’t do (just haven’t gotten into it) hide glue yet.
Pull some tape clamps and thin ca?
Or just consider it a bad top?

Failed center seam, or crack in the wood? Is it spruce, cedar, redwood, or something else?

Most likely that crack was already there, and just got longer.

I usually glue cracks (with thin hide glue) and continue on. But do make sure the rest of the wood is in good condition by flexing across the grain with a reasonable amount of pressure.

Not the center seam.
It’s Spruce

Oh well

And that is why you should learn how to use hide glue :)

Scrap it.

How expensive was the top wood? If it was modest to average, I would scrap it.

Set it aside, save it for later. As mentioned, for a burst or a painted top it might be fine. Right now it's an aggrivation. At least it happened fairly early in the process.

I like to tap and flex the plates after jointing and gluing them together, but before final thicknessing. If one is a "dud" for whatever reason I set it aside and use it for something else.

When I used Titebond for joining tops in most cases you could not really see the glue line. I agree HHG is better in that regard and now use it but still....

I'm wondering if you just need to sand the top good.

I’m just curious how you got sea dust in the rosette channel. That’s your problem right there. Lol.
