My 2 different plans both call for 6mm KOA bridge plate, what have you used and why, this is a style 1 and my first weissie. Have lots of black walnut and was thinking it might be a good substitute for the KOA Thanks!

Black walnut might be a little soft for a bridge plate. I would use maple.

They probably used koa or mahogany cutoffs from the sides and backs. I used maple on both of mine. Any of the other standard hard woods would probably be fine - rosewood.

On my 20s Weissenborn I used to have the original plate was maple.

Black walnut is a bit mushy for a bridge plate.
