I want to add a strobe tuner app to my cell phone, it runs Android. Want to use it for checking frequencies while tapping braces, tops, etc. Anyone use one? Which is the best? Thanks! |

I think most people like this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... uner&hl=en I use it on ios. Sorry, I didn’t catch the tapping tops thing first time around. Are you looking for an FFT? |

I have not bought it yet, but I think I'm going to try the Peterson app. There's a promo on their website. |

For tap tones you will need an FFT. A strobe tuner won't help. The Peterson app StroboSoft is a pretty good strobe tuner for the Android. |

Thanks for the suggestions, but have another question. What is an FFT, and can i get one for my phone? Seems i read somewhere that for tap tuning, to check resonance frequencies, a modern electric guitar tuner will not work. But a Strobe tuner will, and apparently the Peterson strobe app is pretty good. What do i need? Any recommendations? |

What most people use FFT for is to see the overtones and their strength when tapping a top (or any other part), while strobe tuners only focus on the fundamental for tuning up. |

I use this one. It's pretty good and it's free. https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... lyze&hl=en |

Are the mics on phones good enough for this sort of thing? Or perhaps you are buying a mic for the phone too? |

"Are the mics on phones good enough for this sort of thing? Or perhaps you are buying a mic for the phone too?" Since we're only interested in freq. response I think the mics. are good enough. "Do I need this??? It would no doubt impress clients!" Real handy if one follows a similar procedure as to Gore, Gilet books. Usually I use Visual Analyser/ Shure SM58 mic./ and pc for spectrum analysis but the one I referenced above gives very close results and is always close by and at the ready no matter where I am. |
