Hello OLF,

I've just started a build with/for Trevor Green out in California. I'm toying with video documentation and thought to share. There may be a bunch of videos so please let me know when to stop.

If you got this far please check out Trevor's music and if you are near Joshua Tree, he'll be playing the festival tomorrow

http://trevorgreenmusic.com/

I'll be building a Weissenborn style with a cedar top and cherry back and sides. I'll be using all domestic woods and thank you again for all of you help working out options for the bride and fingerboard just a little while back. I'll be trying a few new things and will capture what I learn.

https://youtu.be/HHB9SijPs-s

I’d love your feedback. And help embedding videos into the post. A link is the best I can figure out.

I hope all is well and thank you for stopping by!

///UPDATE///
I didn't realize that the YouTube button doesn't embed the video into the post. Below is now a link.

-----

Here’s the second video. I wish there was more to it other than kerfing but I finally got around to making a jig that will increase my accuracy and efficiency.

Many thanks to Kevin Caton for his generousity on YouTube. You should check out his original version in which mine is heavily inspired.

Hope all is well. Thank you for stopping by.

Fourth video! And another great song by Trevor Green.

Sides bent and rim glued up...

https://youtu.be/HcapiyUWC30

Next up, kerfed linings and profiling the sides. Getting dangerously close to starting on the top.

Thank you all for checking it out. Hit me up with questions, comments or suggestions. Video is new to me.

Best,
_Mike

Joined the top and installed the rosette. Although the time lapse seems fast, I feel like I'm working at a snail's pace...

Bob, thank you for checking it out and for the kind words.

The plans are mine and I'm happy to share although they'll need a little work before I'd feel comfortable sharing. Right now they are pretty rough and a lot of the dimensions and notes are in my head.

Are you planning on building an acoustic lap slide? If not, you should. They are a blast to build and even more fun to hear played... I'm a poor player and keep trying to find others to play mine.

Thanks again!

Sanded sides. Nothing thing super special but learned a bunch of what I know here. You may see some of your tricks hidden in the footage.

Can you explain your back bracing? I've built two Weissies and I'm assuming you are somehow trying to isolate the back from the players lap but that seems like a lot of effort.

Freeman,

Thank you for reaching out.

The purpose is increased structure and support for an instrument that is played laying on it's back. I have a double back version of the same instrument that did succeed in isolating the back and reduces the dampening effect of a players lap but in this case it's merely rigidity. But, an unintended side effect it predictability. What I mean by this is because the dome (arch in both directions) is locked in with out the use of the sides, I'm able to tune the back before it's all glued together.

Although it is more effort, it's the effort that I enjoy!

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Hope all is well and thanks again!

_Mike

Another update. I made the bone nut and fit the battery door with magnets. I’m working on putting together a video on sanding and staining the body.
