I misunderstood what was slipping in this post at the beginning. I thought you were talking about the router jig not the collar and bit.

I believe it’s the bit now that some have brought it up

Well I awoke this morning with finishing on the brain. This guitar is coming up being very “honest” looking. Not a lot of frills, but the simple natural beauty is there.
One guitar I have , a Halcyon, is a semi gloss finish with open pores. It kind of has that same vibe, so I’m considering a similar finish. I may actually do Tru-Oil on this one, although I’ve only done one previously with TO.
(Any threads out there for TO?)

I’ll echo that question in another thread since it’s a different topic.

Doing a little flossing to get the neck to center left to right. I’m a full 16th off center at this point:/ but I should be able to coax it.. also a hump in the neck around the headstock but I can sand that down :) going nicely overall ImageImage
And yea it’s time to
Clean the shop room:)

I’m in the final sanding stages before locating stuff and doing some taping for finish.
I’m in the process of smoothing the edge off of the binding so it doesn’t feel sharp against you.
When you guys do this do you simply round it over w sand paper and donit by eye? How do you get it exactly uniform? Or do you?
Btw.... if you’re new and reading this... remember to keep the binding 90degrees at the fingerboard / body joint:) don’t ask how I know

I sand it by eye in two stages. I use a small wooden block about 1/2" x 1" with p320 and do a 45 degree bevel all the way around. The bevel not very wide, 1/32 or less. It's easy to keep the bevel at a relatively constant width. Then I follow up with p320 on a rubber block about the same size to finish the roundover. Don't forget to leave the binding square under the fretboard.

First very thin coat of TruOil.
The finish isn’t this dark. The wood is cooked thus the darker look

I’m a little surprised at how red this is turning.
Maybe it is a reaction w the toro ford wood some how ? For comparison here is torified wood from the same supplier finished w em6000

Getting better each time is all you can ask for. I hope for each new build to make me ashamed of the previous one in some way.

Right on.
It has been a great few years for me doing this. Been loving it (mostly):)
