Had a nice holiday camping trip to sunny Florida and came across this nice piece of oak. Dang I wish I could have had access to that tree.

How would it change the timbre of the instrument?

Can't see the picture, but here's one I did entirely from a big piece of firewood from a friend's West VA farm - back sides, top, and neck. Not the prettiest wood, but sounds great

I have to ask: you buy firewood that comes in a potato sack? Around here, there are guys on the side of the road with a full load of split wood in the back of their pickup truck and a hand drawn sign.

I found this hunk of osage orange on the ground while hiking one time. It's a pain sawing slices off of it by hand, but has gorgeous large scale curl. I'm pretty sure it was ripped off the tree by a small tornado.

It was in a state park. They sell bundles like that and we bought one when we registered. The next day just outside the park there were several people selling wood. A can to drop money in on the honor system and off you go. Much cheaper that way too. But it's pretty common in a lot of the east coast parks I have visited to sell it in a sack that way. I load the wood up on the back of my bicycle so it actually comes in handy.

My Acme grocery store sells shrink-wrapped bundles of kiln-dried firewood, enough for about 1 fire for $6. All can think of is that they kiln-dry it to kill the bugs, not to reduce wood movement.

That resonator is Ash. My friend lives on top of the mountain that John Henry died tunneling under - Talcott, WVA. The tree was killed by the ash borer which is wiping out the Ash in the region. I like to think that John Henry's DNA is on the soil that the tree grew in. The Walnut for the fingerboard and head plate has been in my shop for over 25 years.
