For those looking to buy or sell woodworking or metalworking tools. the Mid-Atlantic region's PATINA show (Potomac Antique Tools and Industries Association) is one of the best on the Right Coast. This year, we will be doing some tailgating to sell a few boxes of tools generated from the shop clean-out, hopefully to join Ed Minch (Ruby50 here at OLF) across the street from the show venue in the overflow parking field. I expect the boss, Mr. Morelli, Mr. Verhoeven, and some of the students will join us, so we should have a solid-sized contingent of luthiers present!

As usual, the tailgating starts up around 5 AM and runs through about 2 PM, with the bulk of the activity 7-10 AM. The formal sale inside the VFA Activity Center is open for early admission at 8 AM, provided a fee is paid, but general free admission starts at 9 AM...usually around the time I need some warmth and a fresh cup of coffee.

For first-timers, a good plan is to plan for a 7:30 AM arrival, spend an hour and a half chatting up the tailgaters (most of my purchases have been from tailgaters versus sale tables inside), then spend the 9-11 hours wandering the hall. The Music Cafe a few blocks away, or Royal Bagel and Donuts (excellent NYC-style deli sandwiches, etc.) about 5 miles further south in Germantown (corner of Middlebrook and Rte 118) are both good places for lunch. The auction starts by early afternoon, with the items posted online a few days prior and on display the day of the sale.

From the PATINA web site:

Quote:
The 2019 Spring Tool Sale and Auction will be held on Saturday March 16 at the Damascus Maryland Volunteer Fire Association Activity Center, located at 10211 Lewis Drive in Damascus, Maryland.

A full range of tools and other antique related items will be on display beginning at 9:00 AM Saturday, March 16, 2019. A preliminary list of items to be offered in the auction will be posted in March. Sale Information
