Glued and did the fretwork and setup this weekend. Indian rosewood with a Sitka top. Koa binding. Ebony bridge and fingerboard. Brazilian headcap.

Turned out pretty well. Has a good sound, pretty loud and balanced. I’m happy.

Next up is three similar OOO all mahogany with Sitka tops. Pumped!

Good job Blake! What is the gray material in the rosette?

Nice one, good job!

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Looks great, Blake! What finish did you use, and how did you apply it?

Thanks Steve! (good to see another NC builder) The gray material in the middle is just a bad picture of two white/black/white strips sandwiching one black line.

Thanks Don!

It is a waterbased lacquer from Woodworker's Supply, their house brand. I spray with a Fuji HVLP. I am not a great finish man but they are shiny enough for me.

Very nice. I like the small guitars, and the 12 fretters. My only contribution might be that a different tuner might be more elegant. Again very nice job.

I love a small 12 fretter myself. Thanks!

What tuners do you mean for more elegance? Like open back or modern curvy, round Gotohs?
