I have been looking high and low for a good bandsaw blade supplier...

I need the widest blade I can find for a 14 inch bandsaw, that has the fewest number of teeth, for resawing. Been using the band that the saw came with, it was dull (no surprise there), sharpened it with a mini air pencil grinder which now it cuts fine, but because it's a resharpened blade, 1/2" x 4T, it doesn't cut all that well and kinda wants to drift a little bit.

I'm looking for Lenox 1/2" 3 Hook blade, but all of the suppliers who supplies bandsaw blades are either not exporting at all (like there's a law against it), or are charging outrageous shipping. It does not cost 80 dollars to ship bandsaw blades to Taiwan unless you're making the box really large and putting a few pounds of lead in it! Heck coiled up it should even fit a flat rate envelope.

I'm also looking for 1/4" x 6 Diemaster 2 blades.

For the record my bandsaw takes 100.5 inch blades, or 2560mm. It's a welded steel bandsaw but has a rather flimsy tensioning mechanism (I may machine a new one at some point that's a bit more stout). Complication is the quick tension lever... I may ditch it completely.

Or do you know who sells Lenox flexback coil stocks and I can just braze or TIG weld it myself?

The reason is, I can't find anyone in Taiwan selling 1/2" 3T stocks, they are all 4T. They said 4T is fine for resawing but I notice the saw bog down sawing through 6" of purpleheart (but then the blade is kinda dull too). I got some 9" wide purpleheart I'm trying to resaw and before I take a risk on it, I want to make sure I'm not going to have any problems.

If you have a local supplier of 1/2” 4TPI for your saw, I wouldn’t bother spending energy or money trying to buy coil stock or fancy blades overseas. The 4TPI will probably dull a little faster, but should work fine on a well tuned machine even for resawing. At the end of the day, a blade is a consumable, regardless of its initial price.

Thing is, they are expensive too. They want 20 dollars (3 blade minimum) for a 10ft 5in blade. This is carbon steel, not Bimetal. They said the blade stock is made in Japan. I remember a shop somewhere that made bandsaw blades too, I may check them out again assuming they are still around. They were cheap last time I remember (I got some 1" x .75T resaw blade from them for around 15 dollars, again carbon steel, 12ft length)

Try this. https://www.tuffsaws.co.uk/postage

I didn't check if they do the blade you want but Ian does export and I can vouch for the blades. They are excellent.

It looks like they only ship to Europe.

Or do I need to email Ian and ask him to ship to Taiwan?

I just bought some Levi jeans from the UK and shipping was only like 20 quids or so. I am sure bandsaw blades are much lighter than that.

Before I switched to the woodslicer blades (ordered through Highland) I would buy bulk of these cheap blades that work pretty well for the money. Seems like they will ship to you. - http://www.spectrumsupply.com/shipping-policy.aspx

They will, but charge 80 dollars to basically ship a 5 ounce object.

Tai, if you want offshore products, you’ll have to be prepared to pay. I’ll recommend again that you find a decent Taiwanese supplier — and please don’t tell me everything made in Taiwan is junk. I’ve made guitars in NZ — all of the same shipping cost issues as you face. You find ways to work it out.

I would further suggest contacting Carbatec in Australia (http://www.carbatec.com.au. Are you on the ANZLF? A Carbatec tech rep used to hang out there. Virtually all of the Carbatec machinery comes from the same Taiwanese factory as Rikon, Grizzly and other brands you know from the US. I doubt Carbatec wants to sell outside of Australia and NZ, but they know the SE Asia industry and may be quite helpful in recommending a Taiwanese source.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

I looked into Olson, asked if they have custom sizes (I need 100.7 inch bands) and they do.

I'm looking into Olson MVP and their shipping rate isn't too bad but I might just use MyUS for this because they ship by weight only, no volume surcharge. So maybe I can even save on stuff like a radius dish...
