A couple years ago I bought a piece of very lustrous, curly? Af mahogany. I think when the Rockler store got a new location. It is 3/4 X 5 X 24 inches. I'm cleaning up the basement and trying to organize the wood first, and saw it again, wondering what I bought it for, besides the fact it looks so cool.

It is cut on a 45 degree, so a 3 piece back with small wings would probably not be ideal.

Sealed with epoxy to harden the surface, would it work for 4 fingerboards? Or maybe better as a built up neck.

It could work as ribs for a small bodied baroque guitar. I've done ribs on the skew, and I find they bend easily without cracking. Many like perfectly straight up and down medullary lines; but many like a lot of things.

Any ideas that you can think of? Or which ones of mine are just plain stupid.

Too bad the picture doesn't move. The flip flop is very cool.

Thanks Mike,
That's what I'll do. I'll use it as the veneer on the headplate of every guitar I make. Right up front where you can see it. Like a calling card. I should be able to get a lot of them out of it.

Awesome!
There was a builder here years ago that gave me several headplates of an Australian wood called Yellow Sirus. I used it on several guitars. Would love to have more. Apparently it is a common wood there, but IMO it is beautiful.
