Post subject:  First Flamenco Guitar.
I just finished my first flamenco guitar. I have made a number of classical and steel string guitars.

Here is a video where I attempt to sort of play flamenco like on this new guitar. Not being a flamenco player or not really a guitar player at all listen at your own risk, It is an opportunity to hear it. The guitar is brighter than my classical guitars with a lot less sustain especially on the trebles. This is actually the first flamenco that I have held so I need to take it out and find a real players to help me understand what I need to do on the next.



Flamenco Blanca
Top: sitka spruce
back and sides: spanish cypress
bindings: Rocklite Sundari (yes I lied on the video)
back backstrip is East Indian Rosewood.
Neck: spanish cedar and laid up it ebony
Bridge and and peghead veneer Brazilian Rosewood.
Tuners: Wittner Finetune Flamenco

Nice looking guitar.
It definitely has that flamenco vibe.
How are the pegs fitted compared to regular friction pegs?

Thanks guys. The geared pegs are great. with the right reamer they were easy to fit and are easy to use. They are fitted exactly like wood pegs, with a typical taper.

John,
It looks and sounds great. How light is it? Looks like you have Aquilla flamenco strings on it. Is their sound that different?

The build blog was very good. I have to do way more pictures, and talk a lot less on mine. Guitar makers have way more fixtures and power tools than violin makers do. I'm like an 18th century Luddite. I even learned how to set a Spanish guitar neck, how to do ribs that are set into the neck heel, and a fancy trick to put binding perfectly at the bottom seam of the sides by watching it. It looks deceptively simple! You've done a good job if you make it look easy.

I was lucky enough to have Paco Chorobo, a fine Flamenco guitar builder, composer and Flamenco guitar player play this guitar. I followed his online video class offered on Robbie O'Brien's site to build this guitar and am current working with him building my second at Robbie's place in Colorado.

He was scheduled for a small informal concert and used my guitar. Here are a couple of pieces he played.

You nailed it in every way. I had never heard of those tuners before. I only built one flamenco guitar and it sounded like a classical guitar to me. I used pegheads but those Wittner Finetune Flamenco tuners look good and for considerable less price.

What finish did you use for the guitar?

Where did you get the Wittner tuners? I can find violin, viola, and cello pegs in US, but haven't found the flamenco pegs with the string hole up high.

Beautiful guitar. I looked at your blog and your shop is way bigger and better equipped than mine!
