Post subject:  Removable Pickguard

I have a client that is requesting one and he wants Tortoise shell. I've seen the Kling-On electrostatic type guards but they only seem to come in clear or black.

Does anyone have any ideas how to make one from regular tortoise celluloid on a French Polish finish?

I cannot think of anything.

Use the thinnest material you can find. Something like this should work: https://www.stewmac.com/Materials_and_S ... FkEALw_wcB

Use Elmer's white glue to stick it on. Later, you can peel it off without damaging the finish. The remaining glue residue cleans up with white vinegar. This technique is commonly used on flamenco tap plates. It's much more reversible than the self-adhesive material which becomes increasingly impervious to solvents as the years go by.

+1 regarding Elmer's on FP. I've used it with thin Mylar. I use a wine cork cut in half to squeegee out the excess glue and air bubbles. It is a little finicky but works great. After 3-4 days the milky appearance disappears. And, if you need to remove it just peel it up. If the pickguard material is dead flat it should work fine. If there is a curl or warp to the PG you might be in for difficulties.
