I was fitting a top recently and though I’d share a good way to shorten brace ends. A little trick that has made life easier for me.

Put some binding tape on each end of an X-Acto razor saw and you can saw almost all the way through the brace end without damaging the top. You can finish the cut with an 11 blade and pop it off with a chisel.

A good method. In a similar vein, tape on the end of a flat file will keep the file tip from digging in when leveling inlays and I routinely put tape on one end of my scrapers when leveling bindings.
