Scored a board of 16/4 clear flatsawn straight grain Honduran Mahogany at Windsor Plywood of all places...

Don’t need to order necks for a while, lol...Image

A dozen scarf/stack blanks and two perfect blocks for one piece necks.

With an inch leftover and a second beautiful 8/4 plank to make some laminated necks...Image

There is great satisfaction in scoring a sweet hunk of sweetania!

Color me green with envy. Set some aside to turn into solid body guitars. It would be yummy.

Gotta love that!

I miss the days when I used to live down the street from a world class hardwood dealer just outside of Washington DC.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Wow! I’m happy for you Ed, we don’t have a WP in Kelowna anymore, so it’s been a few years since I’ve been in one. Right now Hondo is my most precious wood in my small stash.
Congrats!!

Hey Cal, there is a WP up in Vernon. Never had much luck there myself.
Have a pretty good bunch of honduran if you are in need.

Pretty nice chunk of wood! Were you also milling and laminating some other pieces in the pictures?

A friend of mine gave me about 150 bd. ft. of cherry this week, so I guess I got lucky too!

Alas, I’m afraid not. There is one more slightly under 8/4 flatsawn board that I might scoop up to laminate into my ‘deluxe’ line necks a I add wings to the headstock so only need 2 1/4” blank width. We’ll see if it’s around after a few paydays...

Lols, maybe one day. Right now I’m trying to scrounge enough to cover what’s on order...
