Hi guys,

I finally got my hands on a decent camera to start documenting my first build a little better.  Honestly, a year ago, I didn't know what lutherie was.  I just had this idea for a guitar in my head.  It's all just dry-fit together right now.  The last major piece I need to fabricate is the tailpiece.

It is a Gitolin.  What's the matter with you Red?  Or maybe it is a Gitola, or a Gitello.  It's too small to be a Git**s!

It looks great Dave.  Sorry about the abuse above. Thanks for posting the pictures, and keep us up on your progress.  Some of us like to see the process.

You are not sorry! Am too!  Are not! Am!

Yea! exactly.  I figure the looks will distract people enough to ignore any sour notes.

I've got the neck angled back enough so the action against the fingerboard will be normal, but yea.  It'll be jacked way up from the soundboard like a cello.  I have to re-do that bridge though after studying some more about cello bridges.  Cello bridges have a whole other thing going on.

yea, frets are the next adventure.  I'm still mulling how to cut the slots nice and clean in that wenge wood.

Typically it is a lot easier to do this before you tapper, radius and glue to the neck No criticism just something for future reference on that stand up mandolin you are planning next

Funny you should say that, I have an octave mandolin on the drawing board...  I wonder what a double-octave mando would sound like? You might have something there.

Nice carving on that headstock...  I'd like to try some of that type of carving on a bridge...
