Yes use the translucent. There is no differance in Seal Coat and any other wax free shellac other than the formula of the solvent. I am not sure what it is but some additive in their solvent keeps the mix from going bad for a long duration. other than that it is cut shellac. Now before you tint be sure to test because Seal Coat is much more amber than cut extra blonde, I believe it is about 50/50 mix of amber and blonde

I always tint my Shellac by adding a darker grade/shade of flake (mixed up). I add very little at a time and test on a sample board. You realy shouldn't be able to see the "tint" too much if at all. If you do see it, it is probably too dark and will wind up being more than you wanted when your done.
