Yesterday, I signed the papers for a house. Technically it's my parents' place, but I'm doing the official buying and mortgage-ing for various fiscal reasons. It's not far from Amsterdam (15 minutes by bus or train), kind of suburbia (not really a bad thing, per se), and most importantly, it has a smallish (but still, big enough) dry, reasonably lit shed I can convert to a shop, and an attic room for 'clean' activities. Which means bandsaw, buidling that thickness sander, and few of those other jigs I always wanted to get made but didn't have the space for! But that's all to be seen some time this summer. In academia land, I'm still waiting on my internship/medical rotations (you'll notice when the start; watch for the deafening silence from me), which are a month and a half away at the latest. So there's that, at least. But...I got a pen today. It reads 'Mattia Valente, M.Sc.'. Yep, I've officially sorta kinda graduated! Now on to the Doctor's degree! So, yeah. Today was a good day. |

Congrats Mattia, i know how tough studying can be and you sure deserve all the best that's coming for ya!

It also occured to me I better start buying wood, once you are a rich Doctor  the European Stocks will take a hammering

Congratulations Mattia. That's great news........and a landowner too. And probably soon to be......... taxpayer! BUT mostly, congrats to you on your graduation. Anyone who will crawl under desks to build guitars, won't have a problem serving his patients well. |

Congratulations Mattia on your new home and degree. Good luck with your internship....it'll be a grind but rewarding in the end! The OLF needs more physicians. EDIT: You are probably one of the only people I know who will be moving more wood than furniture  |

Mattia, Good on you buddy! That is no small task. I just finished up my first year of Ph.D. work here at Purdue and am also looking forward to a great summer of building. Guitar building and this forum is a great way to blow off steam and relax. Good luck in that new shop. Cheers! John |

Dunno if I'm moving into that house yet (back to living with the parents, great though they me be, feels a bit weird...), but my shop certainly will be. And Anthony, you think you're joking, but I estimate I probably have about 300 kilos of wood to move. If not more. And maybe another 150 kilos of tools and jigs. And precious little furniture. I'm currently wishing I had the precise measures for the 'shed', so I could plan out that area properly... |

Congrats Mattia! When we moved into our new home 6 years ago I had zero tonewood, just a hand plane or two and a couple of chisels and a big space downstairs that was waiting to become a workshop. I now have TONS (really!) of heavy metal machinery, coutless handtools, jigs and fixtures and what not, plus a decent stash of tone wood in there; I do not look forward to moving again! Not that I am planning to, so Mattia remember: Once you get setteled into that shop you will fill it up fast and you can NEVER go back!
Eh, so I guess this means you're pretty much stuck with your parents for the rest of your life...
