I also like Terence Kennedy's setup. Wonder how it would work to do this on an oscillating spindle sander using a stationary rub collar mounted to the top of the sander table around the spindle. Would need an offset in the pattern to compensate for the difference in diameter like a bushing on a router. It's amazing how fast the spindle sanders will take off material without loading and burning. |

Hi Chas, I took some time today to make up a model of a clamp system that you could use on your jig and it’s real simple. A quarter turn of the wing nut engages the wood and draws it down tight to the jig. I made it using a 1/4 -20 bolt, a nut and a wing nut. I drilled and taped the model but you could use a threaded insert especially going into wood. I know that a ¼ “is too wide of a slot but I am just trying to covey a thought on how it could be done. The last pic is another option if the wingnuts are a problem. I slotted the end but you'll have to use a screw driver. Rich--Looks like you have a good idea there. Another arrangement of it would be to not thread the fixture but just have a straight hole. Your wingnut would be used to do the quarter-turn to engage the sides of the slot. Then a hexnut (under the wingnut) would be tightened for desired clamping or use a second wingnut for this purpose. What do you guys think? I'm looking at making a fixture for doing the underside of the neck on the spindle sander and could use this type of clamping. Thanks Nelson |

Greetings gents, I'm out of town and on a borrowed computer so I'll have to be brief. The T boly idea will surely work. Not sure if it's a viable production method for my manufucturing sequence, though. When I get home I'll ponder it in the shop. -C |
