Post subject:  Pinless bridge designs or ideas?

has anyone ever made a David berkowitz style pinnless bridge? i have the perfect size brazilian blank im going to use,

should i line the string slots with bone?? i asume that would be a straight forward drop of superglue?

i might consider melimine al la Somogyi.

i have a thousand good ideas for this guitar im building but i am caught on the bridge design?

any suggestions?

thanks,

ricky.

Hi Ricky - maybe contact David and ask him your questions regarding his bridge design. He is a member here and you can also contact him through his web site.

From the pictures on Dream Guitars, it's the same pinless design used by everyone except those using the Doolin-style with the brass pins on top. They hold up fine without additional reinforcement as there's not any real stress or wear on the structure of the bridge except from the ball ends.

I really like the look of both styles of pinless bridges as compared to pinned, but that's a matter of personal opinion.

You should have this posted in the guitar section and not the tutorial section. Maybe you can get Lance to move it?

I'm a noob but heres what i did to design my bridge(i plan on making it eventually)
I measured existing bridges on my guitars, folded a sheet of paper in half and drew a line where the end should be based on the other bridges.I then drew free hand one half of what i thought would be a good bridge shape. Then i cut it out, unfolded the paper and had a full sized bridge template. All that was left is to transfer that onto a piece of scrap wood or lucite for a more permanent template.
My friend has a cheapo guitar that he really likes, the bridge has the shape of a bikini bottom,he refers to the guitar as the "sexy guitar",he cracks me up laughing6-hehe
