This is probably the best and cheapest hold down clamp I have ever used!
4" PVC pipe cut on the bandsaw
3" hanger screw with 1/4" bolt
1/4"x 20 knob

May your sails be full & your glass never be empty!

Nice one!

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Wow, thanks David;
I have been needing some hold downs. These look great and I think I have a piece of 4" saved.
Nice.

Yes, I agree with everyone who has responded. I am continually amazed by solutions which seem so utterly OBVIOUS....but I don't think of them until someone like you shows them to me. Many thanks.

The idea came to me around 3am & a few brewskis! I have paid lots of money for hold downs, but this just makes more sense! I used a 6 inch piece of pipe and flattened it out a little bit with a heat gun and I have a long reach. It flexes just the right amount to push down and it feels very secure
