I just use a workmate, strip light underneath, 4 mm perspex sheet on top.
Would that I had the space, everything has to be multi-purpose!

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

For the longest time I used to simply pop one of my shop windows out of its sash and prop it on two chairs with a lamp underneath. I had less space and it worked fine for years!
I have a little more space now and the fixed light source saves me a tiny bit of time.
Not for everybody, I understand! Especially those with limited shop space.
Couldn't agree more with the "Everything has to be multipurpose" philosophy. Thanks for the input, Colin!
