Welcome to all the new member's on the kit building 101 forum. You are about to begin a challenging and rewarding journey. There is more information available on the subject today than ever before. I am privilaged to have been able to learn enough throughout the years that I have put together a series of DVD's that will make the learning curve easier and shorter for folks. In the DVD's I show all the mistakes so you can avoid them! :D No really, I show how to build a classical, steel string or electric guitar using the LMI unserviced kits. This is basically a scratch build as it is just a box of lumber. You have to do it all and my step by step instructions in the DVD's (which come in the kits) will make it easy to build your own guitar from start to finish. I also have a DVD on guitar finishing. All of my instructional DVD's are available through LMI, one of the sponsors here, or through Apprentice Publishing
Recently I also begin an instructional video series on Youtube called Luthiers Tips du Jour. These videos address topics related to lutherie and many folks around the world are finding them useful. Be sure and check in often here at the OLF as this is a very valuable resource for information.
Good luck on your journey and Happy Building!

But be darn sure you clean off your “god given tools” before handling the DVDs for better view quality. :D

In the past, LMI allowed you to purchase Robbie's DVD in advance and apply the cost of the DVD to the purchase price of a kit. That is what I did. Also, while Robbie's DVD covers building from an unserviced kit, I believe that it comes with the serviced kit as well.

Thanks John! [:Y:] The more water there is in the pool, the more we can all swim.

I built my first guitar a little over a year ago from a kit. The two resources that I found most valuable were this forum with all its knowledgeable, experienced and helpful folks, and Robbie O'Brien's DVD. His DVD is fantastic and can be referenced over and over again as you progress through each phase of building your guitar.
