Using celotex wall insulation block...cost £7 and really easy to cut the shape

By using the thicker type insulation there's plenty of strength.. My kits sides were unbending by the time it reached me from USA and this mold held it no probs..

Any thoughts ?

Yes ..spent ages looking for easy ways to make a mold.. Will just break it off once front and backs on

I like the outside the box thinking! It probably wouldn't take a spreader, but maybe bolt some 2x4 around the perimeter and bam!

Dan Erlewine (whose repair videos are on the StewMac site) keeps foam wall insulation for making repair molds. I've never tried it, but he says it works great. I've seen him use it in his "trade secrets" series. I'm not sure how it would work as a permanent fixture. Maybe if sandwiched with two or three layers of thin plywood it would last a very long time. I suppose that would depend on how it was used, clamped, smashed, etc. etc. Nevertheless, if it is working for you, then that's great.

Hey...that's pretty clever. And it keeps your guitar warm. Great idea for the hobby builder who wants to build different shapes

I think I'll give that a try before doing it in plywood!
