Post subject:  oil finish not glossing in areas

Hi gentlemen,
After the success of my first kit build I'm having a go at a telecaster style kit.
My query is that I am using tung oil which is glossing up lovely in most areas but I am getting some areas of dull matt like finish, please see attached photo.
Is this just because I need more oil layers?

Any advice is gratefully received

What type of wood is it? Was it sealed with anything prior to finish?

Hi chuck
It's an ash burl.... which I believe was sealed
I have put another coat or two on since my post and it is looking better now.... I will post photos over the next few days...
Still learning here... And loving it !!!

there must be some non smooth areas, burl can be difficult because of the varied surface and densities.
Maybe Use a fine blade scraper prior to applying the oil.
Fo scrapers I like to use those disposable knife blades-
the ones which snap apart and go inside handles.
I don't install them, just use them right out of the package.
You can finish something like an acoustic guitar top or a neck in a matter of minutes-
minimal sanding required.
But they are razor sharp and it takes some technique, wear gloves and be careful.
You don't want too much blood in the finish :-(
