Just finished the set-up on my first kit build. It came from John Hall at Blues Creek Guitars, and I couldn't be happier (esp with the way it sounds) and how helpful John was every time I had questions. I have two pages of mistakes I made that I'm hoping will go away on the next one I build. I also need to thank Freeman Keller; that man has some real patience with newby questions, plus some great threads of how he does all his different builds. It's pretty inspiring to think I can screw up as many things as I did and still end up with a very playable guitar. How many people start out with glueing the neck block in the mold upside down? Mebbe now I'll remember it's a flat top guitar, not flat bottom.

Appreciate any and all who answered my many beginner questions. Roy

Great looking guitar. What are your plans for your second! I have miss glued blocks. Not on my first, but it had a Spanish heel.

Very nice. What finish did you apply?

It's nitro gloss from cardinal. That's actually one of the things I hope to improve on my second. The nitro went on fine, but I didn't know enough to do a 320 sand in between a day's worth of coats, and I must have been too tentative when I got to the final wet sanding, I've burned thru the finish on some other repairs or on the Strat I built. It looks very good from 5 ft or so, but when you reflect light off it up close, you can see that I have a good bit to learn. Also, on the sides and back, it's clear that I didn't do three coats of Z-poxy to make sure all pores are completely filled. Still happy with it as a first effort, hope to make improvements on the second. Thanks for asking.

And the Klipschorns...they're 1966 vintage, but after replacing the caps they sound great to these old ears. Klipsch is in Hope Ar, and when I was in college, Paul Klipsch came to Little Rock to speak to our physics class with his one page physics audio 'book'. Then he invited us down to his lab and the factory. Very interesting guy. We all need heros, he's pretty high on my list. Roy

I should probably mention that I did the set-up, thought I was happy, then detected a buzz on the 'B' string. I'm now on my fourth nut, after different strings buzzed on each of the first three. For the moment I'm leaving the nut slots a bit high. Will go back to that when I get around to it. It's playable, just not perfect. (And I'm getting quicker at making new nuts.) I'll get there. just not sure when. Roy

Sounds like it's buzzing on open strings only?

yes, I was just trying to get too aggressive with the nut slotting and went a bit too deep. More than once.

No need to make a new nut, you can easily build up the slot with baking soda and CA.

Or shim the bottom, Roy. Then recut.

On the nut.
What pat said
If you’re careful... tape off around the nut
Fill the slot with either bone dust or baking soda and drop a bit of water thin super glue on it.
Let it dry.
Refile the slot:)
