Cool! I would have been tempted to cut the top pieces between the grooves, glue them up flush and sand it down smooth. That would have been beautiful with a good nitro finish. But I love rustic builds as well, especially old or reclaimed wood. Like the "f" hole design as well. Looking forward to the rest of this.

Weathered, rusted, or hammered hardware would look cool.
Also, cow-skull knobs (everyone likes skulls).
Maybe a piece of barbed wire somewhere.
I'm curious to know what sort of finish you will use.

Today I sanded the sides to match the top plate. Next I need to rout the neck pocket. I laid the neck on the body to see what it will look like.

Barncaster update. Knobs. Have been trying to figure out what I can us for knob and flow with the project. So I took a old wine cork, Cut it in half, and drilled it to fit the shaft of the pot. I like the way it turned out. I might stain it a little darker. I also counter sunk it a little to give it a skirt to hang over the retainer nut.

I used a wood rasp to cut the profile at the nut and heal. Then a old antique spoke shaver that I found for $10.00. I clamped the heel to the work bench and drawled it towards the head stock. then smoothed it with a orbatle sander. I need to smooth it a little more. and work the transition at the heel and head stock a little bit more. But am very happy with it so far. I didn't think I was capable of making a neck. I was planning on using a cheap neck I stripped off another guitar. I will post some more pictures of what i do today later.
