I thought I’d share my latest build.
This one is Redwood veneer over Mahogany, Bubinga finger board, gold mop, and plastic binding.
I added a Maple spacer in the body for no particular reason.
The backstrap veneer may be Mahogany, but I’m not certain.
Import hardware, Switchcraft and Bourns electronics.
The body has some hollow chambers to relieve weight.
Finish is nitro lacquer.
The wood and hardware was selected to compliment the plastic cavity cover.
Thanks,
Dan

Very nice Dan. I'm curious about your experience with the veneer - how thick is it, what glue and clamping (vacuum bag?) did you use, any issues with the finish. Is the top flat or does it have some arch?

Also, wow, it looks like the body joint is at the 22nd fret - how much tenon do you have inside?

Thanks Freeman!
I believe the veneer is 1/32” thick. I made an MDF clamping caul and used veneer glue.
The caul and body were oversized before gluing. The top is flat. The glue came from veneersupplies.com.
Since the body edge to the neck is flat, I ran the heel the full length of the tenon, all the way to the neck pu cavity. The neck and heel don’t have shoulders against the body edge.
I tapered the neck to match the fretboard taper and cut the neck pocket to match.
This created sort of a wedge that I was able to adjust for a tight fit.
The neck pickup cavity is not very deep, so there’s a good amount of neck tenon in the cavity.
I had a problem with the finish, no matter how I sanded the top there were still some ripples in the veneer. I think it’s the nature of the burl.
The body is three panels glued together like a sandwich. I cut the wiring channels on the back of the top piece so there were no voids under the veneer.
This is my third veneer project and so far no issues with warping. I guess the body is thick enough to prevent it. I don’t over clamp, and I think the glue does not introduce much water. I used a roller to apply the glue as well.
Thanks,
Dan

Killer, just like all your other guitars, Dan! You have the knack for getting your materials to flow, and compliment each other!

I'm liking the P90 pickup cavity blinding I might have to try that detail out.

That's a gorgeous guitar! The binding around the pickup recesses is a cool touch.
