Has anyone made a neck with a stacked heel on a les paul or prs style guitar?
I have some lovely maple and want to make it go a bit further .
If I stack the heel I can get 4 necks instead of 2 out of the blanks I have

So long as its strong / stable enough Id go for it. I have enough of the wood to make the stacked heel out of the same .
I would have thiougnb stacking , ie laminating would be no weaker.

All of my LP and 335 style guitars have stacked heels (and scarfed heads) made out of 7/8 or 1 inch thick mahogany (actually, everything I build does). The only drawback I can see is if your maple has character that would look bad at the seam. I use long tenons that extend into the neck p/u cavity.

Why stack the heel? It’s not an arch top. I just leave set necks the same thickness, like on a bolt on.

I also scarf the head. That’s a lot less wood wasted than cutting the head out, and it’s stronger.

that's a good point , just seems like a heel is part of the traditional feel but maybe technically unnecessary

I build guitars with a traditional look and feel so I stack the heel

However it does get in the way and probably is totally unnecessary unless you truly want to look like a Les Paul (or a 335)
