I typically use 1 3/8 in neck width at nut for my tenors . How wide would a 6 and 8 string neck nut be ?? thanks

The last 8string taropatch I saw was 1.5" nut width. I dunno about 6 strings. Maybe check some specs on manufacturer's websites

Thanks quine, sounds about right , probably same width for a 6 str as well
