I've been out in the northwest for the GAL convention. If you aren't a member, consider joining. There is a lot of experience and information available.

After the GAL conference I headed up the coast to Alaska. Up the Taku river about 25 miles east of Juneau, Alaska is a lot of Sitka. Here is some destined to be part of a cabin. Notice the cut, split and stacked sitka in the background.

Unfortunately, I didn't have a barge to get more down the river to the port. The float plane pilots don't let you take too much cargo.

I stopped in Sitka, AK as well. There is a lot of Sitka, red and yellow cedar there as well, but I was all logged out. Here's my big find while aboard the 'Chilcat' with Capt. Nate from Minnesota!

Here is a photo of the Tongass national forest near Ketchikan (the country's largest national forest). Notice where the trees had been clear cut. They are already growing back and without re-seeding.

The darker colored standing trees are sitka. The others are red and yellow cedar and hemlock.
