Good work bob. Thanks for the show an tell. I added another laminated c brace near the bridge patch. I used a falcate bracing plan from a documented build of a concert uke from may 2012 ANZLF. Did you get a suitable case? Do you have a sound clip of any of the falcate ukes ? . Just finishing up number 3, cheers ernie |

Ernie: I built a box of double-corrugated cardboard in the same style as I would build a case. It will take a fair amount of abuse and it is in a suitcase packed with clothes. I am just lucky that the temperature will rise tomorrow because United airlines refused to fly into Winnipeg over the last two weeks because it was too cold. Trevor uses "C" braces pointing outwards from the ends of the bridge patch. I have used them on some of the instruments (with waists). Depth matters, my 1" deep (with waist) has a real bite compared to the 1 1/2"deep with no waist. Bob

Have a wonderful trip, an enjoy playing your uke down on the beach. My pineapple tenor is + or - 60mm in depth. If you do get the chance , and have a way to record the falcate ukes and post them on this forum , would luv to hear them . when you return . ernie |

Ernie: Getting the pictures on the board required the help of a friend and two hours of computer time. Luckily, he has built a couple of guitars and needed some help and specialized tools. His results were absolutely beautiful. My style might be called Peasant style. I have only done one rosette and I hate inlays. I prefer to use 1/8" brazing rod for fret-board dots and I have started using maple veneer stripes for side dots. I have just found that the fifth fret dot is handy when I play. Bob

Ok bob , sounds like your not familiar with computers and sound equipment. My wife is way more knowledgeable , she posts the photos .does the youtube videos and built the website. I would be lost without her . I use brass rods 3mm 5mm and 7mm for uke position markers.I also recycle worn out ebony vln pegs, they make great fret markers especially on lighter woods e.g. fender maple necks. |

Ernie: I have used dots using a paper-punch and hickory veneer. Most of my finish stuff (binding ,wedgies and dots) are hickory veneer. I have a roll of one inch that may last forever. I have a package of veneer pieces that I use as head and back veneers and as reinforcement on plate jointing (Cross-grain) and as sound-hole reinforcement. Bob
