Hello, I have a friends Uke that needs a repair, it looks like the neck bolt insert has come loose. I need to inspect more closely after taking the neck off. If the insert is loose and won't tighten for some reason, could I just epoxy it in place? My thought is the string forces are so much lower that it would work? If so, just remove the insert, cleanup the hole a bit, and epoxy into place? Appreciate any help. Brad Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

As long as it's high quality epoxy. Not 50/50 fast setting stuff. West or system three. Long setting times and low viscosity let it penetrate the surrounding wood. Should be bomber. I would make sure the bolt wasn't bottoming in the hole and jacking out the insert. Just my 2 cents. |

If I understand the kind of insert you have, I would remove the insert, drill out the hole larger than the original, glue in a piece of dowel made of hardwood, redrill the hole for the insert, and then epoxy the insert. |

Should hold with epoxy. I hope you can get the neck bolt out with the insert spinning |

To close the loop. I was able to get the bolt out. I cleaned out the hole a bit and epoxied that sucker into place. One tricky thing was some epoxy squeezed up into the end of the insert and I had the clean it out by screwing the bolt in, removing, clearing the threads and repeat until it wasn't picking up any more epoxy. Probably a slick way to avoid that but I wasn't aware of it.  Thanks for the help! Brad |
