It's really embarrassing to be honest.
In any event, I did some things that resulted in some progress with my ukulele.
I cut a piece of the sound board to make a peg head veneer. Here you can see me holding the sound board up to the peg head to see if it fits. It pretty much does.
Image

Then I shaped the back braces using a $6.00 plane I bought when I built my first guitar. It works great for this task.
Image

Then I glued on the back. My cat likes to be nearby at all times. He has a big tumor in his hind leg and wont be around for too much longer. My cousin, whom this uke is for, had to put her cat to sleep recently, so I will be incorporating a cat into this uke in honor of her cat and my cat who will probably be dead by the time I finish this ukulele. Lets see you continue to not care and make a joke about that!
Image

I also finished shaping the neck, but I didn't take many pics of that process. I only took one actually. Here it is:
Image

That's all for now.

I do care about your cat (not the uke), okay well I care about the cat parts of the uke. I had to put my cat down a few years ago, he was the only animal who ever truly got me. Now I feel like a jerk for not making an Oliver uke; thanks a lot!

No worries. The idea came to me thusly: The Lady of the Lake, her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water, signifying by divine providence that I, Tony, was to dedicate a ukulele to a dead cat. THAT is why I am your deceased-cat-honoring ukulele maker.

Very sorry to hear about your cat. I have two, one of which loves to be in my shop while I am working. They both will be greatly missed when they are gone. Unique individual little creatures they are.

Since it appears you are in decent spirits and you are typically fond of levity, I will go ahead and ask (I originally resisted) exactly how you are going to incorporate a cat, gut strings?

As for the Lady of the Lake, be careful! She once tricked me into doing some things I am not proud of. I'm starting to think that this was a different lake since Camelot is not in Missouri; now that I think about it, she definitely wasn't lady like either! Her arm was clad in shimmering stripper dust and held aloft a beer bong . . . Ah spring break. . .

Easy Bryan - your roots are showing Eat Drink

I too feel bad for the cat - sucks when your pets get towards the end.

I'm not going to say anything bad about a sick pet, I've lost three dogs in the last couple of years. Two were old and it was time, but that doesn't make it any easier. I still miss them. I still miss my tricolor collie, and he died nearly 40 years ago.
I would normally say taking good care of a cat involves a sack, a rock, and a river.

Tony, I tend to get a little choked up when I hear that someone's cat is sick. Been through so much of that over the last few years. I'm very sorry your buddy is sick. It just sucks. We just laid our cat Wally to rest who passed from kidney disease. It's never easy.

Something I've wanted to do is take an impression or footprint of my cat, and use that as a sound port on my guitars and ukes. I'd have to scale it up a little, but what a great way to remember them.

I grew up with dogs and always thought cats were evil. My wife wanted to get two of them one day and I was like No Way (like I really had a choice :) ). But on the same hand we just moved into an old farm house with mice so I thought maybe not such a bad idea. Not only have I not seen a mouse in ten years but I have two of the best little friends ever. If you raise them up right they are incredible friendly and wonderful pets. I can tell by the look in the eyes of Tony's cat that he's one of the good ones. =^,^=

I thought about maybe putting the image in a fade on a label or something like that. I like the foot print idea and in fact Ithink I saw an image of a dog print sound port on some one in this forums guitar.

It is hard not to care about the animals if you have some yourself. I am a dog and cat person, but can only have dogs now due to the wife's allergies. Very sorry about your cat, but I am sure he has had a good life.

My wife and daughter work with pets at risk and have saved several cats and brought them back from the edge of the 9th life . I love my wife and daughter and they love cats . Therefore we now have 10 The ONLY thing the lady in the lake can offer me is Liqour , or maaaaaaaaaaaybe that bong mentioned earlier !

Now back to our regularly scheduled not caring !

Indeed! To that end, here is what I did tonight that you can all not care about:
I got the box closed a couple of nights ago and flushed up the back plate. It is a three piece back with a wide center section little tiny wings at the lower bout. I'm not even sure the wings made it after I trimmed the overhang.
Image

Then I set up to thin the binding. I chose some cocobolo I got for free from Lespaul123 a while ago. He sent it when we did a wood swap as a bonus gift. Good guy.
Image

Please take note of my fancy set up:
Image

After several unsuccessful attempts, I have decided to go in another direction. Black ABS from Stew Mac. Yup. My first time using plastic. That will add $11.68 to my total. Oh well. At least I still have room in by budget if I decide to change my mind and get more wood.
Thanks for not caring,

Tony

Edited to add the new total for this ukulele. I am now at $66.22. NTAC.

It was working well but I got impatient and the wood, as you can hopefully see, had a little runout. I bent the waist and upper bout curves fine but broke the lower bout three times.
Filippo, you must have upgraded to the professional grade not caring recently because I can really feel it now!

This thread is helping us to raise (lower?) our not caring capabilities to new and even less caring levels [:Y:]

This thread has more views and more replies than any of the rest, either somebody cares or everyone is way too diligent about not caring. duh

I think people check in once in a while to see what their Care-O-Meter hits when they look at my thread. If it does not move, they know they are doing things right. If it even blips a bit, they have to try harder to not care. It's a delicate balance because simply clicking the link to the thread can cause the meter to register so you have to be mindful to click it by accident.
