I am a new member to your forum (24 hours or so...). I am an old buzzard wood worker that decided to build a guitar (not sure why...seemed like a good idea at the time). At any rate, I have already started my project (ordered my materials on Thanksgiving). So, I would like the opportunity to share my build, but don't want to break any rules. If I am too late for the Challange, I will post to another thread.

Thanks for the consideration!

Hey Joe. Will haver to wait for someone more senior to decide, but as there is a 9 month window, and you're only into it for about 6 weeks, I'd say OK.

As to the finishing question, I tend to agree with Zeke. The finishing is, to me, the major component of the build, and ought to be done by the builder, and not outsourced.

How far along are you? If its a basic start then I say jump in . Its the reason for Rule # 9 If you feel that your barely started and want to join the fray thats your call . Maybe at the start of your build thread you could mention where u are and pics so people have the whole story . Point of this is to Promote New Builders .

Let your conscience be your guide my friend , we are all friends here ! [:Y:]

Am I allowed to compete in this one?

On second thought, I'm sure most would be better than mine.
Nevermind.

I don't think you quite meet the 2 builds or less qualification. But don't let that get you discouraged. Go cut up some wood and make a lefty. And then comes the hard part, learning how to play it laughing6-hehe

If you do build one I'd love to watch you work. I've read some of your other builds and I like your style duh padma

Methinks teh Padma should enter - if only because he has the best build threads going, and alwyas nice to see his approach. Come on let him in and let his enthusiasm carry us through the dark days of split sides, router slips and other hideous errors we face... more the merrier and it aint about winning, its about taking part. 8-)

Ummm...I'd like to get in on this, but I started my project back in mid-September. This is my first-ever build and I'm building entirely from scratch...so the going has been pretty slow. Also, I didn't work on it much at all during Oct/Nov timeframe. Not sure if I would qualify. Currently, I'm most of the way through carving the neck, I've got the soundboard and back jointed and thicknessed, and I'm currently working on the rosette. So, I've not gotten too far. I personally feel comfortable entering as I surely don't think the headstart gives me any advantage. But I'll leave it to the "elders" to decide. My "doc-u-build" thread is here:

Just let me know... idunno

Here is my thought on this . I think if you want to throw your hat in the ring , and feel in the your mind that your small accomplishment to this point doesn't override rule #9 then I say go for it . I would suggest that you make sure in your build thread that people are aware that you started before January and understand it could affect peoples voting later . Win or not , you will enjoy being part of the challenge ! [:Y:]

Let me know what You decide and I will add you if you wish .

I'm sure wud will see this and tack you onto the list. But to be safe you may just want to PM him. And go ahead and start your thread, share what you have accomplished in your first week as a luthier :)

I'll throw my hat in the ring as well.

Funny, I lost track of this, and then noticed that the old timers were going to do another challenge, which I was a bit bashful about trying to join (unless there was some crazy requirements that handicapped everyone)... and low and behold, saw a post about the newbie challenge. I'm a newbie, and I'm definitely challenged, and I'm hoping to make a wooden music thingy, so why not...

Just wondering if it's possible to compete in both the categories?
I probably won't be starting for a few more months, but will probably be doing several guitars at once.

(I may even do one specifically for Padma's prize)
